Pushing Through
The other day I was reflecting upon how far my practice has come physically. When I first started practicing the physical postures of the Yogic system known as Asanas, it was not easy. Experimenting with different styles and with varying degrees of intensity, many times along the way it left me feeling uncomfortable and inflamed. For many including myself, this would be the point where stopping makes the most sense, where toning it down made sense.
We’re allowed to switch things up. We’re allowed to pick and choose what works for us. Just because a system or structure doesn’t work doesn’t mean the underlying goal isn’t the same.
To achieve a state of Yoga we mainly fall back to our practice. Practice isn’t always doing the same things over and over and getting better. If it’s not working, then it’s time to switch up the practice. Once you find what works, eventually it will become like home. Sometimes it takes time to establish your home. For me, after first being exposed to the practice in 2013. 7 years later I feel like I am finally getting comfortable in my body. The Asanas have showed me that. There’s no turning back now. Keep pushing through.
